As a general description of island life, you could say it is laid-back, easy-going, peaceful with low traffic volumes and low crime rate. Whether you are looking for a place to bring up a family, making plans for retirement or just have had enough of the life on the busy lane on the mainland, you could well find the island life of interest. If you need to work, there are opportunities for certain trades, shop assistants, school employees and some others but these opportunities are limited and there is competition.

Many people find they need to commute from the island to the mainland for their career choice. This commuting is usually by a ferry, which can take between 20 mins to half an hour on most days. The ferries run regularly - timetables and prices. also vehicle barge run thoughout the day

On the mainland there are regular bus services from the ferry terminal. Also many islanders park a second car on the mainland at or close to the ferry terminal. There are both paid (security fence) and unpaid parking spaces.
